Saints show promising signs of what's to come against powerhouse Eagles outfit

The Quebec Saints kicked off their 2009 OAFL Division 2 campaign at the Rideau Raceway today, tackling the Eagles Division 1 squad in what was a close fought battle for three quaters. Without a true Division 2 team the Eagles fielded their Division 1 team and the Saints showed they were up to the challenge holding their own for three quarters. The 3qtr time score was a little to close for comfort for the Eagles as the brought on all their big guns for the last quarter eventually running away 50 point victors 12.3 (75) to 3.7 (25)

History in the making only 10 days away

The Quebec Saints are preparing for their first OAFL Division 2 match which is just around the corner. After the big build up for the Roos game that was a huge let down as the boys from Etobicoke forfeited less than 48 hours from game time, the Bleu et Blanc have refocused on their next assignment - The Eagles. The Toronto Eagles are the most successful Australian football club in Canada and you can rest assured their Division 2 squad will be a well drilled unit. The young Saints will hope their home away from home, the Rideau Raceway puts them in the drivers seat in what looks to be a fantastic footy game.

Coach's Report available here

The Laval Bombers prevailed with the 4 premiership points after a hard fought contest against the Montreal Saints. Leading at quarter time the Saints slipped behind in the second and third before charging back in the last quarter only to fall short by 10 points. It was Shane Blight's first game as head coach of the Bombers and the results were instant as the usually inaccurate Laval team managed the best accuracy of the year so far kicking 14.6. The Saints who were fantastic at times and went completely missing at others will be cursing their poor form in front of goal. Spearhead Anthony Williams the main culprit putting in a marvellous effort with 8 goals but also had 7 behinds to add to that tally. Final scores Bombers 14.6 (90) def Saints 12.8 (80)
Goals:
Saints-A.Williams 8, P.Considine 3, G.Leiva 1
Bombers-C.Stark 6, B.Vawser 4, J-R.Theis 2, M.Sigler 1,D.Zelniker 1.
