The Saints and Bombers will square off in the opening match of the Eastern Canada Australian Football League, 10am Sunday May 3rd at Parc Jarry in Montreal.
After an eventful 'HOOTERS RIVE-SUD PRE-SEASON CUP' the Bombers will be looking to keep their momentum going, now 2-0 against the Saints. The Bombers will be led by Canadian Cam Stark, one of the leagues best on-ballers, with an influx of talented rookies and some veteran Aussies in the team the Bombers will be quietly confident of taking home the four points on Sunday.
After a disastrous Pre-Season Cup where the Saints failed to record a single victory things are looking a little brighter ahead of the season opener. Head coach and 2008 leading Goal Kicker Anthony Williams will be back in the line-up, as well as full-forward Vincent Pottier. The Saints struggled up forward in their pre-season hit-outs and these additions will clearly ease the pressure on the Saints small forwards. The good news doesn't end there with rumour that Saints star ruckman Ronan Rouxell may be making his '09 debut, this would help the Saints through the midfield as talented on-ballers Fred Frost, Mick Lacy and Alex Rochette can focus on carving up the Bombers midfield. There is still a question mark over the fitness of 2008 B&F Runner-Up Sam Heath, he may be they key to a Saints victory.
It looks set to be another close one, The Bombers are yet to drop a game to the Bleu and Blanc - but the return of Coach Williams will provide not only a focal point up forward but leadership and direction for the young Saints, making them slight favourites in this one. The Verdict: Saints by 11 points.
