The Ottawa Swans have claimed the inaugural 'HOOTERS CUP' with a hard fought come from behind victory against a gallant Laval Bombers side. In what was a picture perfect day for Aussie Rules, after 2 rounds the undefeated Swans met the undefeated Bombers in what shaped up to be a winner takes all contest. After a close first half that saw the Bombers hold a slender lead the Swans hit a purple patch late in the game with three unanswered goals setting up the victory.
The surprise of the day were the Montreal Shamrocks, the Gaelic team in their first ever Aussie Rules tournament managed to keep pace with their more experienced counterparts, eventually beating the Saints and claiming 3rd overall for the day.
The Saints who were hit with a late withdrawal in key forward Anthony Williams, and an injury to Sam Heath struggled to cover the huge losses in their line-up. The undermanned team fought hard all day and were by no means pushovers.
Tournament MVP went to the Swans Luke Walsh and tournament Rookie Standout went to James-Roberts Theis of the Bombers. A more indepth match analysis will be posted soon.
