Montreal Angels flying high at U.S Nationals
Three Montreal Angels competed this weekend at the U.S Nationals, North America's biggest Aussie Rules tournament that was held in Mason, Ohio. Part of a three city team, the Angels were teamed with the Toronto Blues women's team and Sacramento Ladies Aussie Rules team. Margo Legault, Lindsay Belzie and Aimee Legault all first year players were thrown into the deep end against teams that have been playing for years and all did exceptionally well. The Eastern Canada/Sacramento team losing their first game to one of the tournament favourites Calgary, then lost a hard fought match against Arizona in which they outscored the American team in the second half. The icing on the cake was a hard defensive victory in game 3 over the New York Magpies, an amazing effort from the team.

SAINTS STORM INTO FIRST GRAND FINAL
The Quebec Saints delivered a statement in week 1 of the OAFL DIVISION 2 FINALS series with an emphatic 103 point demolition of the Central Blues. Splitting the regular season honours at one game a piece, the Blues went into the match knowing they had the Saints measure on Quebec's previous road trip to Toronto. This time however the Saints would get a fair shot at the legitimate Blues Division 2 squad and in doing so proved that the last round match up that saw the Saints run away 71 point victors was no fluke. The Saints dominated in every position. The midfield combination of Matthew Wood, Ben Vawser, Greg Bretiere and Cam Stark winning every single centre clearance giving forward Shane Blight a field day and a club Division 2 record 8 goals. The only bad news for the Saints was the injury to star ruckman Matthew Wood early in the second half. The Saints will now enjoy the week off and wait to see who out of the Hawks and Roos will be there Grand Final opponent.

Saints put up galant fight in Ottawa slog
With constant rain making playing conditions extremely tough the Swans started the better of the two clubs, adapting to the conditions well and although the Saints had more of the ball the Swans were impressive in the execution in the wet kicking 5.2 to the Saints 0.3, the Saints unlucky to have a goal denied by a dubious umpiring decision.
After some direction from coach Shane Blight and assistant Declan Coyne the Saints came out on fire in the second, completely dominating possesion. Carl Ferreri, Chris Lagace and Aimee Legault all running rings around their opponents. Unfortunately for the Saints they couldn't capitalize on the scoreboard kicking 2.5 to the Swans 1.0 to trail by 18 at the half. Tempers rose as the Saints refused to give in, the match marred by some ugly incidents as both teams threw everything into the contest. Some Swans greatful that there will be no video review on one particular incident. Again woeful kicking in front of goal wasted the Saints fantastic work, at three quarter time the Saints 2.12 trailed the accurate Swans 8.2.
With two tired teams playing in the most difficult of conditions the Saints did their best to work themselves back into the game but a goal midway through the last sealed the match for the Swans. The Saints although having more possesion and inside 50's wasted their opportunities and finally went down

Saints and Angels complete a demolition job on Central Blues
The Montreal Angels fresh off a 1 point victory last week took on the Central Blues women's team in Ottawa today. The Angels didn't know what to expect but showed they were more than ready exploding out of the blocks and completely dominating play. Aimee Legault and Lindsay wreaked havoc in the middle while Dani Anderson and Elaine were too classy up forward. In the only forward surge for the Blues of the quarter Mirabell chased down two Blues preventing them from even getting close to a score. Margo Legault and Mel added the finishing touches as the Angels ran out convincing winners Angels 14.8 (92) defeated Central Blues 1.1 (7)
In the men's game it was an OAFL Division 2 top of the table clash. The Saints were confident heading into the match having their best line-up all year finally on the park. The onslaught started from the first bounce, the fresher Saints used the ball with precision piling on 4 quick goals. Matthew Wood incredible in the ruck and the on-ball brigade finally had some focal points to aim for in Pat the Gap and Mick Lacy. The Saints led at half-time 47 to 0 and unfortunately for the Blues it didn't stop there. The Saints added another 5 goals, the Blues kicking two of their own but eventually falling to the new top of the table team. Saints 12.12 (84) defeated Blues 2.1 (13)

Uche magic gives Angels edge over sharp Shamrocks outfit while Saints give Bombers a lesson in the Montreal sun
In the first game of the day the Montreal Angels kicked 3 goals to 1 in the last quarter to steal the win from the Montreal Shamrocks in the second round of ECAFL women's footy. The Shamrocks led all day served well by a brilliant 6 goals by unstoppable Trish up forward, Andrea and Mel causing problems for the Angels all day in the midfield. For the Angels Aimee was at her usual best well supported by Lindsay who was a force through the middle. Mimi was keeping the half-back in check but it was a fantastic 4 goals to Uche that proved the difference, the Angels falling across the line by a single point.
Montreal Angels 8.8 (56) defeated Montreal Shamrocks 9.1 (55)
The Montreal Saints showed last rounds win was no fluke belting the Bombers in tough conditions today. Set up by a 7 goal to zero first half the Saints showed they were prepared to run and outplayed the Bombers in every position on the ground.
For the Bombers it's the second loss without the guidance of coach Shane Blight, it is also the second match star back man Declan Coyne has been absent due to his injury.
The scene is now set for the final round, the Saints are only one win behind in the standings but will be required to make up a huge amount in percentage to steal top spot. After today though, anything is possible.
Saints 13.6 (84) defeated Bombers 4.6 (30)

Quebec Saints Vs. Central Blues, Humber North Toronto.
Each week I watch this team grow in stature and develop into what I call a team. On the weekend this was nothing but the truth. We travelled down the 20 to the city of Toronto to the home of Australian Rules in Canada. With limited players from home, three London Ontario players, Shane, Mark and Jason came to join in the action, also was the friend in foe Chris who pulled on the boots for the first time ever. For the full Coach's Report click here

Bombers hold on in fiery round 3 shoot-out
Coach's Report available here
The Laval Bombers prevailed with the 4 premiership points after a hard fought contest against the Montreal Saints. Leading at quarter time the Saints slipped behind in the second and third before charging back in the last quarter only to fall short by 10 points. It was Shane Blight's first game as head coach of the Bombers and the results were instant as the usually inaccurate Laval team managed the best accuracy of the year so far kicking 14.6. The Saints who were fantastic at times and went completely missing at others will be cursing their poor form in front of goal. Spearhead Anthony Williams the main culprit putting in a marvellous effort with 8 goals but also had 7 behinds to add to that tally. Final scores Bombers 14.6 (90) def Saints 12.8 (80)

Saints players add fire power to Swans line-up while one led the Rebels cause
Mick Lacy lined up in the forward line and after a goaless first quarter by the Swans, Mick stepped up
a gear in the 2nd and led the Swans charge back into the game. The Swans slammed on 3 goals in the 2nd quarter, 2 of those off the boot of Lacy who easily beat his opponent and was proving a headache for the Rebels down forward. Not to be outdone, Shane Blight started on the Half Back line and had a dominant first half, Picking up countless possesions Shane was easily amongst the best players. His complete dominance helping keep the Swans within 6 points of the Rebels at half time. The Swans coach made a key move at half-time switching Shane into the midfield to capatilize on his stellar performance. Unfortunately Shane was injure
d in the third quarter, not surprisingly the Swans chances of a win vanished as Shane left the field and with the lack of ball coming into the forward line Mick Lacy was helpless up front to stop the landslide, the Swans on the end of a 55 point hiding. The Rebels dominant win was helped along the way by Saints player Cam Stark, running rampant through the midfield Cam broke free in the second half and was one of the main reasons for the 2nd half onslaught slotting through several goals of his own.

Breaking News: Aussie Rules in Montreal no longer a two horse race?
Rumours and speculation are mounting that a third ECAFL team has applied, and been granted entry into the Eastern Canada Australian Football League. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the new 'Pointe Claire Power' team may already have their first signing in none other than West Island resident and All-Star forward Anthony 'Choco' Williams. It is also believed that other players have been approached to join the breakaway club. When questioned - West Island resident and Saints star PJ Devine's management declared that he had a no trade clause and would be staying put with current league leaders Montreal. Some big questions remain however, if the Power are coming when exactly will they make their debut? And more importantly, who will be lining up for the new club? An inside source believes that the Power could be ready by as early as round 2, and that they will receive picks 1,2,3 of new players aswell as access to free agent Bomber and Saints players. Stay tuned for more updates

Coach's Box - ECAFL Round 1 Wrap-Up
The start of round one was very fast out of the blocks with the Saints being able to lead at quarter time against a strong 4-5 goal wind.
Some very hard work from Alex, Gab and Ronan saved many goals that the Bombers should have kicked. Again the likes of Cam and James in the ruck was causing issues with the Saints defence. The two were able to gain most wins from the middle. Even if the Saints ruckman was winning the taps Cam managed to read the ball perfectly in the first.
Solidly new recruit David Krief was performing well in forward for the Bombers giving them some strong leads with the wind. For the Saints the power house of Vinny and new comer Nick Switzer caused grief as they created many goals.
